Since the first KBao went on sale, one question comes up again and again from customers around the world: “Should I buy the original, or the new one?” It’s a fair question, so here’s an honest, side-by-side look at KBao Gen 1 and KBao Gen 2 (M20) — what carried over, what’s new, and which one fits your needs.
The Heart Is the Same: A Lively AI Personality
Both generations run the same core experience. KBao listens, talks, sees, and reacts — it chats in real time with a natural-sounding voice and keeps the conversation going with a warm, witty, slightly sharp-tongued personality. That “able to talk back, able to chat” spirit is identical in both models; the difference is what the robot looks like and how it moves.
Both models also share the same build standards: food-grade, non-toxic ABS + PC materials, a drop-resistant structure, IPX4 splash protection (not for immersion), a 1-year official global warranty, and free OTA updates that keep improving the robot over time.
Gen 2 (M20): One Machine, Many Personalities
The headline change in Gen 2 is the magnetic swappable face and outfit system. One M20 main unit can be paired with multiple face and shell sets, so a single robot can become a different character — a panda, a pink sheep, and more styles, with new “blind box” looks (including hidden designs) unlocked over time. Blind-box accessories are sold separately from the robot.
Gen 2 is also smaller and lighter — fans call it “small short legs” — and it can do a full 360° spin while talking, which makes interactions feel noticeably livelier. It also adds voiceprint recognition and a high-definition smart camera, and can even imitate a family member’s voice to keep elders company.
Gen 1 (Classic): A Proven, Fixed-Design Line
Gen 1 is the classic “big long legs” model. It comes in 20 color and style combinations — gray, pink, and black face tones with straight or curly hair and different outfits — so you can match a KBao to each member of the family. It’s the model everything started with: fully mature, well tested, and usually the better value for larger bulk orders, since each case holds 8 units.

How to Choose
- Choose Gen 2 if you want a robot that grows with its owner — changing faces, collecting blind-box styles, and a compact body with livelier movement.
- Choose Gen 1 if you want a proven, fixed design with a wide line-up and the best value for larger bulk orders.
- Choose both — many resellers now list the two generations side by side, since they attract slightly different customers.
